Faces Forward Is Behind Us

Sunday the 4th was my show, Faces Forward.
What a success! I can’t believe it has already been a week.
I arrived early at the Stardust Cafe and pushed all the tables around, stashed the chairs out of the way, and hung my small collection of formally framed works on the wall.

Paintings on the wall!

The Cafe is equipped with hanger molding that makes putting work on the wall fairly easy. I spread all my matted works out on the tables, propping up a few on supports. One table was reserved for little hand drawn tree ornaments.

Ornaments for viewing.
Ornaments displayed.

My matted paintings were spread out all over the tables.

The most exciting part was the part where other people came in to look around. I spent the first hour and a half talking non-stop, and utterly failed to record this part of the show on camera, so I turn here to my friends’ photos.

Also, here I am, with a smidgen of art, on the big night:
Me at the show.

My eyes look a little tired, but that is just my superpower leaking out,
as you can see more clearly below:
Me being heroic at the show.

Face to Face Was

A small but enthusiastic turnout made this, my very first ever self produced show, a success.

Here are a few photos, taken by my Dad, The Crazy Baker:

Face to Face – 11/11/11

YAY!
I’m super excited.

Before I even realized what I was doing, I booked a room at the Blacksburg, VA, community center and reserved some tables and a few chairs (all for a fraction of the cost of applying to a major art fair). Suddenly, I have an event on my hands, and I am excited about it.
There is now a definite focus for my imagination and my efforts. There is something to tell people about and a chance for strangers to see my work in person. There is no application, no hidden fees, and no waiting for a yes or no.
It is as if I finally found a gateway the shape of a future I want,
and the only gatekeeper is me.

This first little show hasn’t even happened yet, and I already have elaborate visions of future improvements on the theme. Next, I’ll hit my home town and my college town, and then move on to some nearby small cities, and spiral outward from there, having a better party each time.

So, if you are in Southern Virginia, come check out my first Pop-Up Art Party, on the 11th of November, 2011, at 7pm.
