Jaana Hitzig is an artist, illustrator, and conlanger, incubated on a West Virginia mountain and currently based in Austin, Texas.
She makes a lot of different things, using whatever media she can lay her hands on. A few particular favorite materials include fine point pens, watercolor, ink, pixels, markers, language, and pencils. Subject matter includes (but is not limited to) curly-cues, animals, fanciful humans, fanciful landscapes, plants, nature in general, and the human experience. In addition to making arty things, she also loves to eat, garden, read, camp, hike, and walk the dogs.
She has used a lot of names over the years, most prominently, Zoia J. Hitzig, J.Hitzig, iloivar, JaanaArt, and, of course, the business name, Mentoleum.
The J in Jaana is pronounced like a Y, as in Johann.

“You’re as true to yourself as any human being I ever met… You’re still doing the same art you did as a little kid; you just got better at it.”
